Our Professional Mariner Program (PMP) is a junior college-type curriculum designed for students who either just graduated from high school or who are looking to change careers. This program can either serve as training for a maritime career or as preparatory training for entrance to a state or federal maritime academy. Courses of study range from one to four semesters, depending on your level of commitment. Each successive semester provides you with the knowledge, sea time, and training needed to earn more advanced US Coast Guard (USCG) licenses and ratings.
A semester consists of 14 weeks of full-time intensive classroom study and on-water training. Some of the courses of study include:
- Navigation
- Radar
- Medical Provider
- Engineering
- Meteorology
- Math
- Deck Safety
- History
- Rules of the Road
- Towing
- Deck General
- Marlinspike Seamanship
Weather permitting, you will spend a minimum of four hours out on the water each day getting hands-on seagoing experience. Your sea days will be logged in a training record book to provide proof of sea time to USCG.
